Our client, one of the largest steel producers in Europe, is currently looking for a Head of Legal who will be responsible for overseeing and further building their in-house legal department. The Head of Legal will play a pivotal role in ensuring legal compliance, mitigating risks, and providing expert legal counsel to the company’s leadership team. Furthermore, they will be responsible for overseeing all legal matters also related to their industrial unit, including contracts, regulatory compliance, litigation, and corporate governance.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement the company’s legal strategy to align with business objectives.
- Provide legal counsel and guidance to senior management on strategic decisions.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations that could impact the company.
- Review, negotiate, and draft a wide range of contracts, including vendor agreements, customer contracts, and employment contracts.
- Manage and oversee any legal disputes or litigation involving the company, working with external counsel when necessary.
- Assist in the maintenance of corporate records and governance documentation.
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance best practices.
- Identify and assess legal risks associated with business activities.
- Develop strategies to mitigate legal risks and protect the company’s interests.
- Build and lead an effective legal team, providing mentorship and guidance to team members.
- Manage the department’s budget and resources effectively.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Law degree from an accredited law school and active membership in the state bar association.
- At least 8+ years of experience in legal practice, with a strong background in corporate law and compliance.
- Experience gained at a multinational company or reputable law firm serving international clients.
- Fluent English and Hungarian language skills.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in managing legal teams and providing strategic legal counsel to senior executives.
- Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations is considered plus.
